About This Place

Perched atop the InterContinental Mark Hopkins Hotel at 999 California Street, Top of the Mark offers an exceptional blend of upscale dining and a vibrant bar scene that draws locals and visitors alike to experience its unparalleled 360-degree views of San Francisco. This iconic cocktail bar and tapas restaurant is a sanctuary for those seeking a sophisticated evening elevated by remarkable ambiance and well-crafted cuisine.

The menu at Top of the Mark is a tantalizing journey through flavorful tapas and classic cocktails, designed to delight the senses. Start with the Charcuterie Board — a curated selection of artisanal meats and cheeses that pairs effortlessly with their thoughtfully chosen gluten-free bread option, something that delighted visitors such as Christina Garnett who appreciated the accommodating and considerate service. For something with a coastal twist, the Tuna Tataki Tacos and Shrimp Taco Plate bring vibrant, fresh flavors with every bite, perfectly complemented by a crisp Mojito or their signature Golden Gate Cocktail.

Dessert lovers will find solace in the rich, moist Bread Pudding and the delectably creamy Tres Leches, followed by a luscious slice of Chocolate Cake — each offering a perfect, indulgent end to the meal. Coupled with expertly mixed drinks like the Vodka Gimlet, Manhattan, and the robust Boulevardier, Top of the Mark caters to cocktail enthusiasts with an extensive, carefully curated spirits list. From smooth bourbons and ryes to world whiskeys and tequilas, there is an indulgence for every palate, served with an elegance befitting this iconic venue.

The atmosphere here is nothing short of enchanting. Guests such as Juan Francisco Esteva Martinez have praised it as a high-end venue ideal for celebrations, whether you're marking an anniversary, enjoying a special date, or simply sharing an unforgettable evening with friends. The live jazz nights featuring talented musicians like Nick Rossi and the Swing Four add a layer of timeless sophistication, transforming a simple night out into an immersive cultural experience.

Fans return year after year, as Alex Taffe eloquently puts it, drawn by the consistently exquisite cocktails and the lively yet intimate ambiance. Though premium pricing reflects the exclusivity and quality, the experience is undeniably worth every dollar — a perfect blend of taste, sound, and spectacular cityscape.

Location and convenience also enhance the experience. Situated atop the hotel, the bar is easy to reach by pressing the “T” button in the elevator, making it a delightful destination for both hotel guests and San Francisco explorers, as Kristina Kouris shares from her evening after a brisk uphill walk. Welcoming hosts and attentive service round out the memorable visit.

In summary, Top of the Mark stands as a luminous jewel of San Francisco nightlife and dining. It combines imposing panoramic views, masterful culinary offerings, and an ambiance steeped in elegance and warmth. Incredible time with the loveliest staff. Highly recommend to anyone visiting San Francisco. Priceless views of the city. The staff even brought out gluten free bread options with the charcuterie board. So kind.

⭐⭐⭐ Visiting Top of the Mark in San Francisco had been on my bucket list, and I was glad to finally experience it before our event. We were quickly seated with one of the best views, which was truly stunning. The food and drinks were excellent—delicious and well-prepared. However, the service was disappointing. It took quite a while for our server to arrive, and there was confusion with the check, which got mixed up with my friend’s. The delay made us anxious, as we were close to being late for our event. Overall, an unforgettable view and great food, but the service needs improvement.

The Top of the Mark features a dancing floor and stage for music bands, a bar, and tables with a 360 degree views of the beautiful city of San Francisco, California. The Jazz nights with Nick Rossi and tge Swing Four are my favorites.

I go to the Top of the Mark once a year every year, and it never fails to impress. The cocktails are always some of the best I’ve ever had. The live band is excellent and the ambiance is amazing. Sure the drinks are a bit pricey, but worth every dollar

A group of my coworkers and I were staying at the Ritz Carlton Residences (I know!) on a Tuesday night and decided to walk here for some apps and cocktails around 7. It was an uphill walk, so we were hungry! The restaurant is on top of the Intercontinental Hotel, you just go straight to the elevators and push the T button. The hostess greeted us right away, my coworker called beforehand to make a reservation & the hostess happily remembered. We were seated right by the window on the left side when you walk in, I rec the left side, but can't really go wrong with either. In the middle is where live music takes place but there was none happening that night. Service was fast and friendly! Miguel was very attentive! Espresso martini was more coffee than creamy which I can't complain bc it was so good & strong! A must are the short rib sliders!! Huge chunks of short ribs then shred perfectly when you bite into them! Also love the shrimp tacos! Those tortillas may be some of the best I've had! The homemade ranch chips were good, not much ranch seasoning but good to snack on while drinking. Margarita flatbread was tasty as well. They also have an asparagus flatbread I want to try next time. Has an old school rich vibe to the place, carpet floors always give a vibe. Overall a great place w yummy food & drinks. Just like anywhere in SF, it's pricey! For three drinks & 3 apps for 3 people it was about 141$ including tip. But worth it for a night out!

My wife and I love going here around the holidays. On the first Saturday of every month they have a swing band and dancing in the center of the restaurant. Great views and festive drinks. We’ve made it a holiday tradition! We used the Sip Savvy app to find a great bottle of wine at a good price. Everything has a decent markup here, but Sip Savvy found the best bottle on the menu for reds was the 2020 Groth Cabernet Sauvignon at only ~1.6x markup. The best white/sparkling on the menu was the Perrier-Jouet Grand Brut Champagne at ~1.9x markup. Definitely check out this place around the holidays if you have a chance! Expect to wait ~30 minutes for a table, but well worth the wait.

Well worth a visit for the views alone. Lively crowd and menu was tasty (apps and desserts only) while you sip on your wine or cocktail. My server Juliana was particularly welcoming and kind. A must do for a special occasion or for visitors from out of town. Recommended!

Top of the Mark is an absolute must when in San Francisco. This iconic rooftop lounge has been around since 1939 and still holds all the charm, elegance, and history that made it famous in the first place. From the moment you step inside, the classic decor and sweeping views set the scene. You really feel like you are stepping into a timeless part of the city’s story. The vibe is refined yet relaxed with soft lighting, live music on some nights, and a mix of locals and travelers soaking in the atmosphere. And the views are truly incredible. You can see the Golden Gate Bridge, the Bay, the skyline, and even the Marin Headlands on a clear day. Whether you come at sunset or later in the evening, it is absolutely magical. We ordered the tuna tartare and the steak and both were outstanding. The tuna was fresh and well balanced with great flavor, and the steak was tender and cooked just right. The cocktails were also a highlight. They were thoughtful, creative, and very well made. Top of the Mark is not just a bar or a restaurant. It is a San Francisco institution that combines history, great food, and unforgettable views all in one place.
